I also found time to get creative.... saw this inspiring sketch over on the Color Throwdown blog

and here is what I created:

Nothing fancy, just using up some favorite goodies from my hoarded stash. Had fun with this color combination - not one I would normally use, but I treated the dots in the navy paper as aqua and pulled the front aqua panel color from those dots.

Thanks for stopping by!!

new year, new everything

Happy 2018 y'all!!

How neglected this sad little blog has been...
The good news is that's about to change!
I miss blogging.
I miss creating.
I miss sharing my creations.
I miss the camaraderie of the blogosphere.

Like many of you, I also have SOOOOO many other interests...
like cooking, and music, and traveling, and ice hockey,
and getting healthy (just started Beachbody & the 21 Day Fix!)...
If you know me, I like to talk, and talk, and talk....
or maybe it's type, and type, and type...
I have a passion for sharing the things that I find that I love -
I always want to shout the good things I find or see or make from
the rooftops for everyone's benefit!!
And here (or some place like here) will be where I will do that!!
Hope you all will join me as I make, and do, and experience the new year!

In the spirit of sharing, and eating healthy, how about a yummy recipe for the new year??
It is one of my FAVES!!
Let me know if you try it!!

Ciao for now...
xoxo

print recipe

creamy cauliflower soup
super simple. super tasty. south beach phase 1 friendly.
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets, along with finely chopped stems
  • 4 cups low sodium chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream
  • salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add cauliflower. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Cook until the cauliflower is tender, about 15 minutes. Either transfer soup in batches to a blender and puree until smooth or (what I do) use an immersion blender to puree the soup. Return to saucepan and whisk in sour cream. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot, or chill and serve cold.

freshly made sketches #285 and color throwdown #440

hello hello & happy monday!!
here today with another challenge card -
I designed a card based on the following challenges:

And here is my card:

So... if you know my card making style you would know what a challenge this card was for me!! lol
I am not much of a stamper. I am not very good at CAS cards. My interpretation of sketches is usually very literal. That being said, I think I was successful in really stepping outside of my comfort zone with this card!

I watercolored the yellow swatch on the background panel. The flowers and leaves were each stamped with the same color ink - first with a watered down distress ink, then over the top with the same color distress ink, but not watered down... I'm sure that's nothing new, but it was a new to me technique ;)
The points of the leaves reminded me of the points on the star in the sketch... yep, I said I interpreted sketches literally, didn't I?! lol

I really enjoyed both the color challenge (I don't usually use purple) and the sketch challenge!!

thanks for stopping by!

case this sketch #219

Back today with another sketch challenge card!!

Thought I'd play along with the latest sketch challenge at Case This Sketch, challenge #219

Here is my card:

My interpretation may seem a little unorthodox, but let me explain... in some strange way when I saw that spikey shape, it reminded me of the very scripty 'happy birthday' sentiment from Simon Says Stamp's 'Big Scripty Greetings' set ... so I used that stamp and then the rest of the card just fell in place behind it!

Speaking of Simon Says Stamp... I am also linking this card up for their current Wednesday challenge, themed 'Anything Goes'

I am so happy to be back playing with paper and stamps!!!
thanks for stopping by!!

reverse confetti SFYTT #47

Back again with another challenge after my 14 month hiatus from paper crafting!!
It felt AMAZING to get back in my studio and play with paper and ink this weekend. Thank goodness there were some awesome challenges that I could attempt in an effort to get back into the swing of things and challenge my creativity!

I have always been a fan of sketch challenges, was even a member of several sketch challenge design teams back in the day ;) ... and I have always been a fan of the SFYTT sketches, so it was a no-brainer to give this sketch a whirl!

Since I haven't been crafting in a while, I also haven't made any new scrappy purchases! So I dug out some oldies but goodies to throw this card together ;)

The patterned papers are by My Mind's Eye (I think?!) and the stamp is one of my favorites from Reverse Confetti's 'Shine From Within' set (psst.... I just saw that this set is on sale right now!! Click the link and go get it for yourself!!).

So glad that I had the chance to get creative after such a long time... hopefully it won't be another 14 months before it happens again!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!
